The Riis Park Beach Bazaar is an experience that is quintessentially New York. If you are a native, you’ve probably already been to Jacob Riis National Park. This is one of the city’s best beaches and has an atmosphere that can’t be beat. If you take a stroll along the boardwalk between Memorial Day and Labor Day Weekend, you will find food, booze, and shopping. Once you have exhausted those options, take in a concert at Bay 9 or attend the Lobster Boil on the beach. The events are spread throughout the summer, so check out their calendar and plan accordingly.

If you like the outdoors, but prefer to watch others perspire, you should check out the U.S. Open. This annual event draws a diverse and enthusiastic crowd. Get general grounds admissions or buy seats to the big show in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Either way, you will get to see some amazing athletes compete at the highest level of their sport. Whether you are in one of the bigger venues or a small side court, the crowd is always electric. Don’t forget to try the signature cocktail from one of the Grey Goose stands sprinkled throughout the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

It is the tenth anniversary of Electric Zoo, the annual electronic music festival that takes place on Randall’s Island.    Each year, this festival hosts up to around 150,000 music lovers. Food and drink vendors abound, but know that you will only have access to hard liquor if you purchase a VIP ticket. So, if you don’t like wine or beer, it is in your best interest to buy the VIP experience. Since this is one of the few music festivals that comes to New York, it seems imperative that everyone go at least once. So, stop by Urban Outfitters, buy your best festival gear, and enjoy the Labor Day events at Electric Zoo.

The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit is an annual event that allows local artists to sell their wares. There are usually some great finds for reasonable prices. If you like supporting local artists and need to adorn your bare walls, this is the place to be over Labor Day Weekend. The artists are selected by a jury of their peers, so the competition is stiff. Even if you aren’t a connoisseur of the fine arts, it behooves everyone to take a stroll down University Place and check out the scene.
