"Why should you never iron a four-leaf clover? You don't want to press your luck." - Daryl Stout
Top of the mornin' (or evenin') to ya.
St Patrick's Day is one of the craziest, most energetic, fun filled, big partying, hard boozing, Guinness infused party dates of the calendar - and guess what? It's just weeks away. Yes, you read that right.
Now, to celebrate the Irish saint that drove the snakes away and indirectly gave the world the annual parties of all parties, you need to get out and get involved in the festivities. And one of the best places on the planet to do so is New York City.
Here, check this out and you’ll see what we mean…
Pretty cool, huh? So, if you’ve been inspired to hit the Big Apple and enjoy a good old fashioned St Patty’s pub crawl or soak up the St Patrick’s Day parade - Big Apple style - here are a few things you mustn’t miss…
St Patrick's Day Parade
No St Patty's party pilgrimage to New York City would be complete without checking out the official St Patrick's Day Parade.
The world's biggest and indeed oldest St Patrick's Day Parade rolls up Fifth Avenue beginning at East 44th Street and ends at East 79th Street, so get yourself a great spot before 11 am and get kick the day off in true festive style.
As you can see from the video above, it's an epic spectacle - and epic's what we're all about - so don't miss out.
St Patty's Day at the Merchant's House Museum
For another cultural fix of Saint Patrick's Day action (a primer for the beer, spirits, shots and partying, if you will) - a visit to the Merchant's House Museum is essential.
This wonderfully preserved 19th-century home will take you on a journey through its genuine fourth-floor servants' quarters, which have been tirelessly restored and repainted in their original colors to offer up a slice of real life Irish immigrant life way in those olden days.
It’s a real eye opener - and there’s little doubt that after all that walking, and exploring, you’ll be in serious need of a drink.
St Patrick’s Day pubs
If you're feeling thirsty, a proper St Patrick's Day Pub Crawl will quench it for you.
For premium pint popping and bar hopping, here are three hand-picked pubs you should venture into during the afternoon - they all serve hearty Irish grub - so be sure to line your stomach in the process.
The Irish Exit
This warm and welcoming Gaelic ale house in Midtown East is off the hook, and it's only a few blocks from the official parade. For $25 you can get yourself the best buffet breakfast in town and not only does it serve a great Guinness, but you can also get amazing mimosas and yes, green St Patty's Day beers.
Lively, superbly priced and packed to the rafters with bonafide Irish charm. The atmosphere here is electrifying, so pull up a pew, grab yourself a Guinness and get into the festive mood. May we suggest trying the homemade shepherd's pie - it's delicious.
A couple of subway stops south of the parade you'll find this tasty little brewpub with a huge Irish heart. Inspired by the Student Art League of New York, this incredible beer house will be pumping out tunes and serving up a colossal slice of Irish merriment on the big day - so get yourself down there, try some tasty house tacos and work your way through the Flatiron's epic beer list. Yum.
