A Quick Guide to NYC’s Mighty SantaCon 2017

October 20, 2017

The festive season is almost ho - ho - here, which means it’s time to get into Christmas party mode. And if you’re in The Big Apple, or visiting it on the second Saturday in December, you need to head to SantaCon 2017. You just have to.

Think a bunch of jolly juiced up Santas stumbling around bar after bar, club after club, spreading their drunken brand of festive joy (o debauchery) - and one of those Santas could be you. Of course, you don’t have to be a Santa - you can be Frosty the ‘Beer Breathed’ Snowman, an Absinthe elf, a Rudolph the red cheeked reindeer,  a naughty Mr Claus - well, the choice is yours.

The point is, this epic annual event is incredible and there’s nothing better than this to get you into the festive mood.

What is SantaCon NYC?

Well, that was some of the action from last year’s SantaCon - and we bet you’re hooked already.

But, if you're still a little confused as to what it is, let us tell you the lowdown on the ho-down.

In essence, SantaCon is the best festive fun an adult can have. This charitable, non-commercial, non-political, non-sensical Santa Claus convention spreads lightly-debauched joy across the city every year - and if you're looking to party in NYC this, Xmas, you really can't go wrong.

Dress up in your best Christmas costumes or glad rags, and embark on one of the most epic Santa-based New York bar crawls in history, slugging down festive cocktails and dancing the night away with other joyous revellers - both local and from out of town - in perfect harmony.

Over the years, there have been a few bad Santas at SantaCon NYC meaning the participating bars have chopped and changed quite a lot - but fear not - there are still plenty of incredible venues involved, all of which will be packed with festive cheer.

There are a few great ways to keep up to date with the venues taking part in SantaCon 2017, and here they are:

  • Follow @SantaConNYC on Twitter; you should also check out SantaCon's 'Santa's Route'.

  • For route updates, text ‘follow santacon’ to 40404.

  • Oh (ho ho), there’s also an official app you can download to help keep your frosty fingers on the SantaCon pulse.

Where does SantaCon NYC kickstart?

The official starting point for the legendary SantaCon bar crawl is 23rd St and Broadway Pedestrian Plaza, The Flatiron Building - and its a sight to behold, so make sure you get on down there.

Now, SantaCon is a festive charitable event, and it's also more fun than you can shake a candy cane at - but there is an etiquette - a code, if you will, and for maximum fun and safety, you should follow it. Here's a little taster for your reading pleasure:

SANTA WEARS A COSTUME: FULL. HEAD-TO-TOE. HOLIDAY THEMED. NONE OF THAT “JUST A HAT” BULLSH*T.

SANTA IS AWESOME TO BAR STAFF! PAY WITH CASH… IT GETS CHAOTIC WHEN SANTA COMES TO TOWN.. TIP WELL.. BRING ID… SANTA IS OF LEGAL DRINKING AGE…

To read, absorb, and understand the full SantaCon code, read it here.

Donating to SantaCon

Over the past five festive years, SantaCon has raised over $250,000 for charitable causes.

To donate a little to this momentous annual event, check out the official donation page - don't be a Scrooge now.
